a broad knowledge of filmmaking that goes beyond the storyboard
and camera lens. He draws on the talent of the cast and crew,
motivating everyone involved to exceed their own expectations, and those of the audience.
REACTION Independent Studios recently completed production on
The Container, a dark comedy short that puts an interesting twist

About Andrew Sniezek Andrew holds a degree in industrial design technology with a concentration in special effects for film and theater from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. While there, Andrew took the helm as instructor at summer workshops and executed high-profile community projects that included a commission for a life-size commemorative statue. He also led a team of fellow special effects artists to create and produce two haunted attractions based on his own concept. These productions featured highly original costumes, prosthetic makeup appliances, and elaborate sets that transformed entire houses. He pioneered a new way for patrons to experience haunted attractions, by engaging them as participants rather than observers. Andrew and his team raised the bar for Halloween enthusiasts across the Pittsburgh area.
Andrew continued to hone his skills in this area with the culmination of his large-scale production Darkenwood, a multi-faceted, haunted attraction that spanned 10 acres and drew nearly 3,000 patrons from local communities. Andrew branched out to non-horror genres; other works include a number of independent projects, such as an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s story Pickman’s Model; theatrical productions with Yellow5fx of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and Return of the King; and numerous creative short films for corporate use.
In 2000, Andrew co-founded Mindbeside Studios with fellow filmmaker Jason Courtemanche. With no budget and high aspirations, their first foray into filmmaking was The Killing Hand, a feature-length drama for which Andrew drew on his creative agility for the critical roles of directing, cinematography, set design, props, and special effects makeup. The Killing Hand debuted to local audiences in August 2003.
Andrew went on to direct Our Fellow Countrymen, the Mindbeside short political satire that showcased his eye for richness in detail and the move to a different and timely genre, against the backdrop of the presidential election. Starring two local, seasoned SAG actors, Our Fellow Countrymen debuted in September 2004 online and at a local venue.
In 2004, Andrew left Mindbeside Studios to pursue new endeavors in film. Before opening the doors to REACTION Independent Studios, he worked with local filmmakers Jake and Josh Epstein of Brothers Epstein Productions to work on the short horror film Acrylic Midnight. Andrew co-wrote and recorded the score with friend and composer Michael Belanger. He also provided guidance to the filmmakers on their first project, as well as special effects makeup, and the design and creation of the hand-stitched leather mask that was the focal point of the film.
Andrew lent his expertise as mentor, director, and cinematographer on the student short film Aidan, the 2005 Senior Project for Brad Allen Wilde at the Francis W. Parker Charter Essential School in Fort Devens, Massachusetts. Brad, an aspiring filmmaker currently interning at a television studio in Hollywood, CA, wrote the screenplay and played the lead in this true-to-life teen drama.
In April 2005, Andrew teamed up with fellow filmmaker Jamie Northrup and Burger Menu Productions to participate in the 2006 Boston 48-Hour Film Project. Room 17, a short fashioned in the assigned genre of silent film, won the award for "Best Use of Prop."
In August 2005, Andrew began production of The Container, the first film under the REACTION moniker. Andrew again called in SAG talent to portray the lead characters in the short dark comedy that recalls the simplistic charm of the silent film.
While pursuing original works for film, Andrew also directs corporate and freelance projects that range from logo and website design to advertising and video production.
